Application checklist

Freshman applicants – make sure you:

Monroe Park campus
  • Read all instructions in the application materials, noting the application deadlines.
  • Determine the email address you will use for your VCU correspondence. Please ensure it stays active for at least one year as we will use it to communicate with you throughout the application process.
  • Answer all questions on the Common Application and submit it to VCU.
  • Include your Social Security number on your application if you wish to be considered for financial aid . Please note: While VCU does not require your Social Security number for admission consideration, it is necessary for applicants who wish to be considered for financial aid to provide a Social Security number to the university. To protect your privacy, your Social Security number will not be used as your VCU student identification number.
  • We encourage your high school counselors to use the Common Application electronic transcript process in order to send official transcripts to VCU. If official transcripts can't be submitted electronically, please complete the Applicant information section of the Transcript Request form PDF and give it to your high school guidance counselor. Request that the counselor send your transcript including:
    • Senior-year courses and first-term grades, if available
    • Class rank, if available
    • High school profile
  • Request to have your SAT or ACT scores sent to VCU (SAT code 5570/ACT code 4379) (if younger than 22 years of age). It is recommended that you have your test scores sent to VCU electronically. Students who wish to be considered for test score optional review should review the "Test scores" section of our freshman admissions requirements.
  • Submit the $65 application fee when submitting the Common Application.

Transfer applicants – make sure you:

  • Read all instructions in the application materials, noting the application deadlines.
  • Determine the email address you will use for your VCU correspondence. Please ensure it stays active for at least one year from the date you apply, as we will use it to communicate with you throughout the application process.
  • Answer all questions on the Application for Undergraduate Admission.
  • Include your Social Security number on your application if you wish to be considered for financial aid. Please note: While VCU does not require your Social Security number for admission consideration, it is necessary for applicants who wish to be considered for financial aidto provide a Social Security number to the university. To protect your privacy, your Social Security number will not be used as your VCU student identification number.
  • Check the departmental website of the program to which you are applying for specific application requirements, including portfolio and audition requirements for programs in the School of the Arts. Submit supplemental materials, if necessary — required of applicants to Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies or MCV Campus undergraduate programs (clinical laboratory sciences, clinical radiation sciences, dental hygiene and nursing). For School of the Arts information, visit arts.vcu.edu/admissions/how-to-apply. For Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies, visit uc.vcu.edu/. For MCV Campus undergraduate programs, visit www.ugrad.vcu.edu/apply/instructions/other.html.
  • Complete and give the College Transcript Request PDF form to the registrar(s) of your current and/or former institution(s). Official transcripts are required from each college or university attended.
  • Submit SAT or ACT scores (SAT code 5570/ACT code 4379) and high school transcript if younger than 22 years of age and have taken less than 30 college semester hours or are applying to the School of Nursing. It is recommended that you have your test scores sent to VCU electronically.
  • Submit the $65 application fee when applying online.

School of the Arts applicants – make sure you:

  • Check the School of the Arts website for specific application requirements including portfolios, auditions, letters of recommendation or additional essays.

International applicants – make sure you:

  • Read all instructions in the application materials, noting the application deadlines.
  • Determine the email address you will use for your VCU correspondence. Please ensure it stays active for at least one year, as we will use it to communicate with you throughout the application process.
  • Answer all questions on the Common Application.
  • Submit the required test scores (see details on the Global Education Office website).
  • Request that your guidance counselor or other appropriate person at your educational institution send transcripts or other forms of academic records to VCU (see details on the International Admissions website).
  • Fill out and submit the I-20/DS-2019 Request Form PDF (financial statement).
  • Submit the $65 application fee when applying online.
