School of Nursing admission information
Undergraduate program admission procedures
Students applying to the School of Nursing will apply and submit supporting documentation electronically. It is the responsibility of the applicant to make sure the application is complete and on time. You will be notified of the receipt and status of your application via e-mail; therefore, you must provide a valid e-mail address on your application for School of Nursing correspondence. You must make sure it stays active at least one year from the date you apply as we will use it to communicate with you throughout the application process. The official mode of communication between the School of Nursing and applicants is e-mail.
Please note: Your supplemental material form (see #4) must be submitted prior to asking your references to submit a recommendation for you.
A completed application must include the following items:
- Application for undergraduate admission and application fee (application fee not required of currently enrolled, full-time VCU students). If you are applying to the Traditional B.S. program or the Accelerated B.S. program, please select “Transfer (MCV Campus)” as your admission type from the drop down box on the online application. If you are applying to the R.N.-B.S. program, please select “Transfer (R.N. to B.S.).” Paper applications are not accepted.
Note: Highly qualified honors students may gain admission to the sophomore class through the Guaranteed Admission Program for Health Sciences in the VCU Honors College. Please refer to the VCU Honors College website for more information. Freshman are not admitted to the nursing program.
The School of Nursing is no longer accepting applications for the Accelerated B.S. summer program or to the Traditional B.S. in Nursing program.

Transcripts: Request one official transcript (in a sealed envelope, signed across the seal by a college official) from each college and university attended, including coursework taken as high school dual enrollment credit, nondegree-seeking credit, or coursework taken and transferred to another institution to be sent to you. Collect all transcripts and mail in one envelope to the VCU Office of Undergraduate Admissions on the Monroe Park Campus at P.O. Box 842526, Richmond, VA 23284-2526. Contents of transcript envelopes which have been opened are considered unofficial and will be disqualified. To ensure you have included all transcripts, you are strongly encouraged to have an additional copy of each school’s transcripts sent to you to open. Review the transcripts carefully to see if transfer credit appears on the transcript. If so, request a copy of each of those transcripts. Current VCU students must present transcripts from all schools attended, even if the coursework appears in transfer on the VCU transcript. Current VCU students do not need to submit a VCU transcript.
- Official SAT, ACT or GRE scores (not required of R.N.-B.S. applicants). Electronic submission of scores from College Board or ACT will expedite the process. VCU’s College Board code (for SAT and GRE scores) is 5570. VCU’s ACT code is 4379.
- Supplemental material form (to be completed
and submitted online). This form must be submitted prior to asking your references to submit a recommendation for you. A confirmation email will be submitted upon receipt.
- Three academic and/or professional references. An academic reference is a current or former faculty member or academic adviser. A professional reference is a current/former supervisor of a paid or volunteer position. Personal references are not accepted.
Please ask your recommenders to submit the online reference form by providing the URL for the appropriate link below along with your full name, date of birth, e-mail address, full mailing address, semester of entry and entry level. Please note that the applicant information that your recommenders submit must be exactly the same as the applicant information that you submit on your supplemental material form or your recommenders will not be able to submit a reference form on your behalf.
References may only be submitted electronically – paper references are not accepted. Both reference and applicant will receive a confirmation email upon receipt.
