What kinds of extracurricular activities are available for students?

Something is always going on at VCU to encourage student involvement and there are a number of extracurricular activities available for students. VCU has almost 300 student organizations and 16 NCAA Division I sports in the Colonial Athletic Association, which include men's basketball, baseball, tennis, track, golf, cross country and soccer, and women's basketball, volleyball, field hockey, tennis, cross country and track. In addition, there are intramural sports and more than 100 music, dance and theatre performances a year … and those don’t include the ones offered by the Richmond community.

What recreational facilities are available?

There are a number of recreational facilities available to students on the Monroe Park Campus.

The Stuart C. Siegel Center features cardiovascular equipment and free weights in a 7,000-square-foot Fitness Center. An enclosed 3,500-square-foot aerobic/multipurpose studio, a Wellness Resource Center and an activity center provides space for indoor soccer and floor hockey. Both the Cary Street Complex and the Siegel Center offer badminton and other team/club sports. Racquetball courts, outdoor, lighted basketball courts and a lighted artificial turf field with a jogging path are available at the Cary Street Recreational Complex. The Franklin Street Pool includes facilities for intercollegiate athletics and the Monroe Park Campus swimming pool and the Thailhimer Tennis Center can be reserved for play.

The MCV Campus Recreation and Aquatic Center offers similar facilities and programs as well as a 25-meter, six-lane pool for lap swimming, water basketball and volleyball.

Outdoor Adventure Program provides a full schedule of day trips and weekend excursions focused on such outdoor activities as camping, kayaking, white-water rafting, canoeing and caving along with many more activities of interest to the outdoor adventure enthusiast.

Do you have an intramural program?

The university sponsors numerous intramural sports programs, which have some 60 different sporting events. All events have three divisions — men’s , women’s and co-ed. There are usually several different competitive levels from beginners on up.

What clubs and organizations are available to students?

VCU has almost 300 recognized student organizations. They range from social to political, from religious to academic, from honorary to student government. If VCU does not have a group that interests you, you can form an organization of your own.
