Working with others
“If you stand out to a teacher, it helps so much.”
“No matter what job you do, you need to work with people. My classmates and I definitely rely on each other. I think that a lot of my teachers assign group projects because it’s important to work together. In a sense, we’re all working with each other to succeed.”
Making connections
“By getting involved in student organizations, I’ve met a lot of people who have the same interests — who like the same things as me.
“I am a student ambassador and that’s how I became an orientation assistant. I was also able to be a banner bearer at graduation, and the department head of biomedical engineering knew me because of that.
“Networking is something that’s really important because eventually you’re going to get a job or want to do research, and you need to know teachers. You’ll need a recommendation at some point. If you can stand out to a teacher, it helps so much.”
‘I’d rather set the bar high’
“I didn’t know how hard college was going to be or how well I was going to do. If I get a ‘B’ in a class that I worked as hard as I could and felt that it was just a hard class, I would be very happy with my ‘B.’
“I’d rather set the bar high and be a little bit under than set the bar low and do better. Because you know what? I’d rather try harder.”
