On-campus dining

“At VCU, there are so many opportunities and resources — you just have to ask.”

“As a senior, I still have a meal plan just because I’m on campus twice a week, all day. I just got a small plan with enough swipes to allow me to eat once a day per semester and some dining dollars so I can go to Starbucks. It helps with the convenience and I still like the food.

“Outside of a meal plan, I like to go to other places close to campus like Qdoba, Cold Stone Creamery and Elephant Thai. But I like also going to Shafer Court when I really don’t have much to do. I like to sit down with my friends and eat and talk.”

Student connections

“I’m the vice president of the student admissions ambassadors. I became an ambassador my freshman year and I still give tours periodically to prospective students and their parents.

“Tours are very informational because you get a student’s perspective. They allow me to meet other people outside of my friendship circle. The interaction with different students in different majors and classifications makes it interesting.

“The diversity is cool because you get to meet others from almost anywhere. You hear different languages and see different cultures. There are just a lot of cool, interesting people at VCU.”

First in the family

“I really want to be a counselor but also work with clinical aspects so I can do research. After I complete my master’s, I plan to practice, get some field work experience and then get my Ph.D. in counseling psychology or clinical psychology.

“It will be the first Ph.D. in my family. No one has a doctorate so I’ll be the first, on both sides.”

Career resources

“At VCU, there are so many opportunities and resources — you just have to ask. The Career Center is the best and I’ll still get to use it for one year after I graduate. If you can take advantage of it, it’s one of the most important things at VCU. They offer job fairs and mock interviews you can come in and do.”
