Enrollment
VCU enrolls more than 30,000 students; nearly 21,000 are undergraduates.
VCU firsts
We are home to many firsts, to name a few:
- We’re the first university in Virginia to offer an undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering.
- We’re the first research university in the nation to have a program in homeland security and emergency preparedness.
- We’re the first to create a undergraduate, multidisciplinary engineering consulting company, ChemEngine, run by chemical engineering students, who solve technical and engineering problems for local companies.
Campuses
We have two main campuses — Monroe Park Campus and MCV Campus.
Campus safety
The VCU Police Department ensures that our two campuses are safe for students, faculty, staff and visitors. Officers patrol on mountain bikes, in cars and on foot. The Police Department is assisted in its mission by approximately 45 hourly and 17 full-time security personnel.
The Security Escort Service provides walking or riding escorts in the evening for members of the university community traveling to and from campus-related activities.
There are 152 Emergency Reporting Telephone Systems located at various areas throughout each campus. They connect directly with the department’s Emergency Communications Division. They are easily seen with either a flashing yellow strobe light above them or they are red wall phones.
VCU Athletics
VCU is an NCAA Division 1 and Colonial Athletic Association member. No football team, but there’s baseball, basketball, cross country, field hockey, golf, soccer, tennis, track and field, and volleyball.
Location
VCU is located in the heart of Richmond, the capital of Virginia since 1779. We are just a road trip away from Washington, D.C., New York, Boston or even Florida’s Daytona Beach.
