32nd running of the SunTrust Richmond Marathon

The SunTrust Richmond Marathon, Half Marathon and 8K Run will be held on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009 from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Traffic patterns on and around both of VCU’s campuses — the Monroe Park Campus and the MCV Campus — will be significantly altered during race day.

If you plan to attend the 10:30 a.m. information session and campus tour on November 14, you will need to allow extra travel time. In addition, we strongly recommend that you review the detailed listing of road closings, available online at www.richmondmarathon.com/traffic_changes.htm, in order to make your travel arrangements when planning to come to campus.

For a course map and more information about the race, visit www.richmondmarathon.com.

An information session and walking tour of campus will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009. 26th Annual Christmas Parade slated for Saturday,
December 5

The 26th Annual Ukrop’s-Supervalu Christmas Parade will take place on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009 beginning at 10 a.m. The parade route, which kicks off at the Science Museum of Virginia on West Broad Street, is approximately three miles long and heads east through downtown Richmond to Seventh Street.

During the parade, West Broad Street will be closed to westbound traffic. Traffic patterns on and around VCU’s Monroe Park Campus and the MCV Campus will be significantly altered during the parade. If you plan to attend the 10:30 a.m. information session and campus tour, we recommend that you allow extra travel time.

For more information about the parade, visit www.richmondchristmasparade.org.

An information session is held in the Welcome Center, located at 1111 W. Broad St., every Monday through Saturday at 10:30 a.m. except on holidays and holiday weekends. The information session is followed by an hour-long, guided walking tour of the Monroe Park Campus.

The guided campus tour does not include a visit to a residence hall room, but information about each of the residence halls, including general descriptions and floor plans, can be found on the Web at www.housing.vcu.edu/halls_villages.html. In addition, photographs of residence hall rooms are available in the Welcome Center and the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. After the tour is completed, for those who are interested in asking more personal questions, an admissions counselor is available to meet with prospective students and their families. Reservations for individual students and their families are not required for attendance at these daily sessions.

Self-guided tour maps are available for visitors who are unable to attend the daily session.

Admissions office staff members are available in the center between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays to speak with students and their families.
