VCU to observe Memorial Day holiday

The university will be closed for the Memorial Day holiday from Saturday, May 26, 2012 through Monday, May 28, 2012. The VCU Welcome Center will be closed and information sessions and campus tours will not be held during this time. Information sessions and campus tours will resume on Tuesday, May 29, 2012.

University to host high school graduations

On the mornings of Tuesday, June 5 through Saturday June 9; Monday, June 11 through Thursday, June 14; and on Saturday, June 16, the university will host local high school graduations in the VCU Siegel Center.

Travel will be significantly impacted during this time; it is strongly encouraged that you allow for additional travel time due to increased traffic.

On these dates, parking in the West Broad Street and Bowe Street parking decks will be reserved for graduation participants only. Welcome Center visitors should park in either the West Main Street Parking Deck (http://www.vcu.edu/maps/acmap/wmpark/wmpark.htm) or the West Cary Street Parking Deck (http://www.vcu.edu/maps/acmap/carydeck/carydeck.htm). Staff in the Welcome Center will be able to validate guest parking for these decks.

VCU to observe Independence Day holiday

The university will be closed for the Independence Day holiday on Wednesday, July 4, 2012; information sessions and campus tours will not be held. Information sessions and campus tours will resume on Thursday, July 5, 2012.

Daily tours

An information session is held in the Welcome Center, located at 1111 W. Broad St., every Monday through Saturday at 10:30 a.m. except on holidays and holiday weekends. The information session is followed by an hour-long, guided walking tour of the Monroe Park Campus. Reservations for individual students and their families are not required for attendance at these daily sessions.

The guided campus tour does not include a visit to a residence hall room, but information about each of the residence halls, including general descriptions and floor plans, can be found on the Web at www.housing.vcu.edu/halls_villages.html. In addition, photographs of residence hall rooms are available in the Welcome Center and the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. After the tour is completed, for those who are interested in asking more personal questions, an admissions counselor is available to meet with prospective students and their families.

Self-guided tour maps are available for visitors who are unable to attend the daily session.

Admissions office staff members are available in the center between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays to speak with students and their families.

Monthly information sessions especially for transfer students

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions will host a monthly information session for prospective transfer students beginning in September 2011. For details, click here.

Information sessions in Spanish

Information sessions in Spanish are available on the third Saturday of each month for students and parents who are interested in VCU. There will be a campus tour following the 30-minute information session where students and parents will have the opportunity to learn more about what VCU has to offer. Appointments

For students and families interested in meeting with departmental faculty or needing to arrange a visit to campus outside of the regular hours during weekdays only, appointments are strongly recommended. Group tours

Appointments are not required for individual families who wish to attend our daily 10:30 a.m. information session Monday through Saturday.

School of the Arts information session

The School of the Arts also offers information sessions and facilities tours starting at the Welcome Center at 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. During these sessions, prospective students have the opportunity to meet with a representative from the School of the Arts to learn about scholarship opportunities, additional admission requirements and to ask specific questions about School of the Arts' programs. Current students in the School of the Arts are available to provide tours of the arts facilities after these sessions. Appointments are not required; however, students interested in having their portfolios reviewed while visiting should schedule an appointment in advance by calling the School of the Arts at (866) 534-3201 or (804) VCU-ARTS. The School of the Arts does not host an information session and tour on Saturdays.

School of Business information sessions and tours

The VCU School of Business offers information sessions and facilities tours by appointment only. Prospective students who are planning to visit VCU are encouraged to call ahead and schedule a tour of the business facilities. Appointments are made Monday through Friday at 1 p.m. and include meeting with a business representative who will provide information about programs of study, scholarships and general School of Business information. Students will also have the opportunity to tour the business building with a current business student. To schedule a visit to the School of Business, call (804) 828-1742 or e-mail avwagg@vcu.edu. The School of Business does not schedule visits on weekends and holidays.

School of Engineering information sessions and tours

The VCU School of Engineering offers information sessions and tours Monday through Friday at 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Please check their online schedule and register to attend one of their sessions. The sessions are held in the School of Engineering Welcome Center, located in the School of Engineering, West Hall, Room 433. To learn more about the things that make a VCU School of Engineering education unique, prospective students are encouraged to plan a visit. Students will meet with an engineering representative who will provide information about programs of study, scholarships and admission requirements.

School of Nursing information sessions and tours

The VCU School of Nursing hosts a tour and information session most Fridays starting at 12:15 p.m. for students interested in the traditional or accelerated nursing bachelor’s degree programs. The information sessions are open to the public but require a reservation. The tour of the school and the MCV Campus begins in the lobby of the building at 12:15 p.m. and the information session begins at 1 p.m. For more information, contact the School of Nursing at (804) 828-5171 or (800) 828-9451, or visit the Web at www.nursing.vcu.edu.

The Honors College information sessions and tours

The VCU Honors College offers information sessions by appointment only. Prospective students who are planning to visit VCU are encouraged to call ahead and schedule an appointment for an information session and tour of the honors facilities. Students will meet with an honors representative who will provide information about programs of study, scholarships and admission requirements. To schedule a visit to The Honors College, call (804) 828-1803 or e-mail honors@vcu.edu. The Honors College does not schedule visits on weekends.

Study Abroad information sessions

The Global Education Office offers an information session every Monday and Thursday at 12:30 p.m. in the Education Abroad office located at 817 W. Franklin St., suite 122 conference room. Education Abroad staff members discuss the various ways to study abroad and participate in international exchange at VCU, including details on program options, costs, credit/course offerings, scholarships, application processes and more. Appointments are not required; however seating is limited to 10, so please arrive a few minutes early to secure a space. The Education Abroad office is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
