Kristen Ellis

Hello! I'm Kristen Ellis, transfer coordinator in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at Virginia Commonwealth University. I joined the admissions staff at VCU in December after moving to Richmond from my hometown of Virginia Beach.

I was born and raised in Virginia Beach, making me a true beach girl. I attended Tidewater Community College and received an associate degree in social sciences. After TCC, I transferred to Old Dominion University in Norfolk, studied abroad in Europe for a year, and graduated with a B.S. in human services/counseling and a double major in communications. I am currently pursuing my master’s in counselor education here at VCU.

I’ve worked with high school and community college students throughout the past seven years. I ran the Career and Transfer Resource Center at Tidewater Community College. It’s there that I discovered my passion for working with transfer students. I relocated to Richmond to continue my education here at VCU, and was thrilled to accept the position of transfer coordinator for the university as well.

VCU has a lot to offer transfer students of any type. It’s located in the great city of Richmond, where there is something for everyone. The area close to VCU is rich in culture, supplying residents and students with a variety of wonderful restaurants, theaters and art galleries. Transfer students should find VCU’s city location particularly appealing as there are numerous opportunities for internships, jobs and an exciting life outside of studies. The many different times that classes are offered also are ideal for the commuting student.

My own experiences as a former transfer student, a current student of VCU and a resident of Richmond helps me to understand the needs and concerns of transfer students. As transfer coordinator, I’ll be paying regular visits to community colleges throughout the state, and meeting with students and their counselors to assist them with the transfer process. And, I’ll work to keep students who are enrolled in Virginia community colleges updated on new and revised programs at VCU.
